Morris County Challenger Little League

Morris County, NJ Challenger Baseball

The Rules are kept simple. The "T-Ball" level is for the children with lower functioning needs. Eventually some players do move up to the "Majors" level, when the time it’s appropriate upon their ability.

The game rules for the "T- Ball" level are:

  1. The games are 2 to 3 innings long. Their attention span is key.
  2. Every Challenger League player is assisted with a BUDDY on the Field.
  3. Every Challenger League player gets a turn at bat in the inning.
  4. After the batter hits the ball, they run base to base.
  5. Every 4th batter in the line up hits a "Home Run" to clear the bases.
  6. After the last batter hits the two teams switch places on the field.
  7. The game ends in a tie.

The game rules for the "Majors" level are:

  1. This group of Challenger League players understands the game of baseball.
  2. The game rules are modified to compliment their disabilities.
  3. The Challenger League team manager/coach creates a regular line up.
  4. When the Challenger League team players take the field, a Buddy must provide help where it is needed, if necessary.
  5. Games run a minimum of 4 innings or a 1 1/2 hour time limit - whichever one comes first.

"Majors" level Fielding Rules for the Buddies were established to give the Challenger League players an opportunity to get on BASE:

  1. Any Buddy on the playing field who catches a Ground or Fly ball must
    1. first toss the ball to another Buddy, (  Ex: like a ground ball double play )
    2. then the second Buddy who receives the toss can make the play where it needs to be made.
  2. If the Buddies fail to toss the ball, the runners are safe on all the bases.
  3. When any Buddy catches a Fly ball, the Challenger League batter is out.

"Majors" level Batting Rules for the Buddies were established to give the Challenger League player an opportunity to make the PLAY:

  1. The Manager of the Buddy team creates a line up, according to their height (smallest to tallest).
  2. Each Buddy has at least one turn at bat in the game, hitting off the tee.
  3. If Buddy is a Righty batter, you must swing the bat hitting off the Tee with your LEFT HAND from the left side Batter’s box.
  4. If Buddy is a Lefty batter, you must swing the bat hitting off the Tee with your RIGHT HAND from the right side Batter’s box.
  5. When the Buddy is at bat, they must hit the ball off the Tee with one hand on the bat, using a FORWARD hand swing motion.
  6. If a Buddy misses the ball on the Tee 3 times, it's a strike out.
  7. When the Buddy hits the ball in play, they must hop on one foot to the base. The Buddy cannot switch their feet while they are hopping between bases. They can switch to the other foot when they reach any base.
  8. If any Buddy forgets to hop and takes 2+ steps towards any base, they are called out automatically
  9. If the Buddy falls to the ground before they reach the base, they can stand back up on both feet, but they need to continue hopping on the same foot they started hopping with.
  10. The Umpires MUST call the Buddies OUT if they switch their feet, in between running Bases.

The concept of the Morris County Challenger Little League program is to bring the Able and Disabled communities together with the hope of establishing a sincere appreciation for each other.

Thank you.
